Best Dutch Theme Parks to Celebrate Halloween in 2024

Published on 11 September 2024 at 17:07

As the days grow shorter and the leaves start to fall, Halloween season is fast approaching. And in the Netherlands, theme parks offer some of the best ways to celebrate this spooky time of year. Whether you’re looking for scare zones, haunted houses, or family-friendly fun, there’s a park for every kind of Halloween lover. But with so many options, how do you choose the best one for you? And, one of the most common questions we get: Does Efteling have a Halloween event?

1. Toverland: Family-Friendly Fun and Scary Nights

Toverland is our top pick for Halloween. By day, it’s perfect for families with children under 12, offering pumpkins, Halloween-themed shows, and four experiences with your regular park ticket. Keep in mind that Halloween is a popular time, so expect longer lines for the rides. The daytime event runs from 10 AM to 6 PM, and all you need is your standard entrance ticket.

But as the sun sets, Toverland transforms into a scarier world with its Halloween Nights. Starting at 6 PM, a parade of 150 scare actors kicks off the evening. The actors then disperse across five scare zones and five haunted houses. While access to the scare zones is included with your entrance ticket, you’ll need to pay extra for the haunted houses.

  • All-in Fear Pass: €54.50 for access to all haunted houses (skip the lines) and a special parade viewing area.
  • Haunted House Tickets: Prices range from €5 to €12.50 per house.

Some of the best houses to check out include Now You're Mine, an immersive mining-themed house where your helmet light might fail, and Trapped, a maze filled with smoke and rats where it’s easy to lose your way. For a slightly less intense experience, The Witches’ Forest is a spooky but fun outdoor walk.

Toverland’s Halloween Nights conclude with fireworks, and a brand-new show has been announced for this year. The event runs on select nights in October and early November, so be sure to check the schedule!

2. Walibi Holland Fright Nights: The Ultimate Halloween Experience

Coming in at number two is Walibi Holland, the original Dutch theme park to introduce Halloween celebrations. Known for its Fright Nights, Walibi is a crowd favorite, so make sure to book your tickets early because it often sells out.

Walibi offers five free scare zones with your park entrance ticket, but the real Halloween magic lies in its additional experiences. This year, Walibi introduces a new haunted house, Us vs. You, inspired by dystopian TV shows like Squid Game and The Hunger Games. The park also adds a new scare zone called Dystopia to match the theme.

Returning favorites include:

  • Psychoshock, The Villa, Jefferson Manor
  • Slaughterhouse, The Clinic, and Below (additional fees apply)

Walibi offers multiple ticket packages:

  • Before Dark Package: €25 for access to haunted houses before 7 PM.
  • Haunted House Package: €32.50 for the same houses but no time restrictions.
  • RIP Pass: €55 for skipping the lines.

For those wanting a more immersive experience, Walibi offers a Backstage Tour (€68.50) and a Dinner Experience(€55), or you can stay overnight at Walibi Village starting at €99 per person.

With so many attractions and experiences, it’s hard to do everything in one day, so consider staying overnight or planning ahead to prioritize your favorites.

3. Hellendoorn: Rising Star for Halloween Fun

Rising fast in popularity is Hellendoorn, which has been rapidly expanding its Halloween offerings. During the day, the park hosts Heksendoorn, a family-friendly Halloween event. There’s even a child-friendly haunted house, Chateau Lumière, for just €5.

At night, the park switches gears with its Screams event, featuring five scare zones and five haunted houses. Some returning haunted houses include Death Lab and Horror Hotel. This year, Hellendoorn introduces a new haunted house, Chateau Christal, for an added layer of terror.

  • All-in Pass: €49 for unlimited access to haunted houses.
  • Individual house tickets range from €6 to €7.50.

Hellendoorn's Halloween events are held on select nights in October and early November, making it a great option if you're looking for something beyond the bigger parks.

4. Slagharen: A Western Halloween

Slagharen is returning for its second year of Halloween celebrations with its Scary Prairie during the day and Western Nightmares at night. This year’s event promises to be quite different from last year, with a new night show and parade. The evening event will feature three scare zones and three walk-through experiences. The event is recommended for children aged 14 and older and will run on select dates in late October and early November.

5. Other Halloween Events in the Netherlands

  • Julianatoren: Perfect for young families, Julianatoren offers a playful, non-scary Halloween event with no additional costs beyond the park entrance.
  • Drouwenerzand: Another family-friendly park, offering Halloween activities and experiences included in the entrance ticket.
  • Bobbejaanland: Kicking off its Halloween festivities on October 12th with seven haunted houses.

Does Efteling Celebrate Halloween?

One of the most frequent questions we get is whether Efteling celebrates Halloween. The answer? Unfortunately, no. While Efteling will launch its new spooky ride, Danse Macabre, on October 31st, there are no additional Halloween events at the park.
