What animals are at Beekse Bergen?

Safaripark Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands is home to a diverse array of wildlife, featuring over 150 species and approximately 1,250 animals. You can spot the Big Five at the Safari Park. Here is a list of all the animals you can encounter. 

 

  • African Elephant: The park houses African elephants, including notable individuals like Calimero, one of the largest elephants in Europe. In 2024 three elephants are born in the zoo. Mosi, Ajabu and Tendai are one of the highlights of the zoo. You can visit them with the walking Safari.

  • Giraffe: Visitors can observe giraffes roaming the expansive savannas. You can visit them with the car and walking safari.

  • Lions: As part of the Big Five, lions are a significant attraction in the park. There are three packs in the zoo. One lives on the safari resort and two live separate in the park. because of the close proximity of the packs you can often here them roar at each other.

  • Southern White Rhinoceros: The park participates in conservation efforts for this species.

  • Cheetah: Beekse Bergen coordinates the European breeding program for the southern cheetah.

  • African Wild Dog: These social predators are part of the park's diverse carnivore collection.

  • Red Panda: Although native to Asia, red pandas are among the unique species housed here.

  • Przewalski's Horse: This species has been successfully reintroduced into the wild through conservation programs. You can see them with the car Safari and from the bird of prey show.

  • Gorilla's: In the Safaripark, there are two groups of western lowland gorillas. You can find both groups along the walking safari.
  • Hyena's: In the Safaripark, you can find spotted hyenas along the walking safari. One group is housed in a large enclosure opposite the lions and okapis. Another group of hyenas is located near the African Village, opposite the African wild dogs' group.
  • Leopards: In Safaripark Beekse Bergen, you can find Persian leopards.
  • Wildebeest: The blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) is a species of antelope and belongs to the large family of bovids (Bovidae).
  • Differen spices of Antilope: Addax, Blesbok, Horse, Dikdik, Antidorcas marsupialis and the Impala among them
  • Chimps: There are different groups in the prak.
  • Zebra's: The Grey Zebra and the Grant Zebra live in the park
  • Buffels: In Safaripark Beekse Bergen, both the Cape buffalo and the red forest buffalo can be found. You can spot them from the car safari.
  • African Penguin: These flightless birds are a charming presence in the park.

  • Bald Eagle: Known for their impressive wingspan, bald eagles can be seen during the park's bird shows.

  • Griffon Vulture: With a wingspan reaching up to 2.8 meters, these vultures are among the largest birds in the park.

  • Nile Crocodile: These formidable reptiles inhabit the park's aquatic environments.

  • Other animals include: Baboons, Crocodiles, Hippo's, Bears, Okapi, Meerkat, Swines, Maki, Ostrich, Tigers, Flamingo's and Seals.
